Hello, and welcome to my journal! As my mini-bio may have already told you, I possess the handle Michael, or Mike for short -- and I will also answer to Mikey or Miker. I was invited to this website by a good friend of mine -- Eva, account: Papillon -- with the intention to catalog my writings and rantings.

I've always been interested in writing for as long as I can remember. I recall an instance where I was particularly young that my elder brother did a school project where he re-wrote the story of a video-game into a little storybook. Ever since then, for the next little while, I was compelled to replicate his project in some way, but none of my results ever proved satisfactory to myself. However, this planted the seeds of what would later blossom into a love of writing, particularly in notebooks. Despite this growing fondness for the craft of the pen, I never really set aside an ample amount of time to complete anything noteworthy. My greatest writing accomplishment is winning a short-story contest in grade 12. I'm hoping this journal will keep me on track.

I've always considered myself to be an avid reader. I was able to read young adult novels at as early an age as 6. Reading is another thing I love to do in my spare time. I think it stems from the fact that my parents allowed me to play video-games from such an early age that I've developed such a fondness for the genre of Fantasy. I also appreciate Sci-Fi as well, but not to the same extent. I truly believe that works of art from all media that unlock your imagination are fascinating and enthralling.

As a final note, for the last 2 years of my life, I've been studying English and Literature at Carleton University. I must admit that this course has truly opened my eyes to the messages and meanings that can stem from even the most simple of writings. Though I feel that I still have a lot to learn in my next 2 years, I feel that already what I've gained can be used to enrich and enhance my stories with depth and character, allowing room for thought, reaction and discussion.

Well, that's all I really wanted to say for now. In my next post, I hope to begin exploring my works and sharing them. Until then I can do nothing but tip my hat and bid adieu.
